Rule of Third

The rule of thirds is applied by aligning a subject with the guide lines and their intersection points, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line, or allowing linear features in the image to flow from section to section. The main reason for observing the rule of thirds is to discourage placement of the subject at the center, or prevent a horizon from appearing to divide the picture in half. This give a different but more energetic view of the object thus making it more life than traditional composition.

Additional Knowledge - GND Filter (alternative to HDR)

I was viewing few pictures created by my friend (Ishafizan); an IT guy but also an outdoor photographer whom love music (play guitar) too. First, I thought of HDR as his picture looks like that. Today I got the answer. He left HDR few years ago and only concentrate on GND filter. Wow. It is rather and a lot simpler than HDR or IR but the picture is still amazing.

Check it out about GND filter here:

It come to my mind one simple statement related to Photography
"It is NOT the CAMERA but the PERSON whom used the camera that created LIFE PHOTO"

Going into HDR?

Here are some tips..

Have fun reading...

IR versus HDR (from my perspective)

  • Photograph in both 'school of thought' is dependent on the person. If you love HDR, than you'll appreciate it. If you love something that is unique (in terms of color), than you'll love IR.
  • Cost - You need to spent extra money to modified your camera and once you modified it, you'll never be able to use it for something else except taking IR photos.
  • Editing - Both required you to edit to ensure that the image really stands-up
  • Support - both have their own group thus you won't have problem.
  • Time to learn - Depends on you.
